1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done?
One research project I have done was research on Labyrinths and Greek Myths in Social Studies.
2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you?
To me, research means to study something and get information on the subject that you chose or were assigned to.
3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative?
The Labyrinth was definitely a success. I was sick for one of the days my class did research so I was really behind when I returned to school the next day. Luckily, I got caught up with my classmates and got to participate in building the labyrinth on campus knowing a good amount of information about it.
Teacher Response March 15
I am so happy that you enjoyed building the labyrinth. I enjoyed watching you all build it.
Your grade is 9/10.

1. I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because:
I think I benefited from the webbing process because it made me lay out all of the things about the three topics I chose so I could see what I would be dealing with. At the same time I got aggravated because I don't like the program but that can't really be helped.

1. Topic: Cathedrals
2. Why you chose it: It's a easy topic to get information on and it is one of the things I remember most from the last chapter.
3. What you already know about your topic: I know cathedrals are used for religious purposes.
Teacher Response March 16
Your grade is 20/20.

1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic.
About how tall were cathedrals?
What was the name of first cathedral built, when, and where?
Was there a famous artist(s) who made the stained glass?
What were cathedrals used for, other than prayer?
What is the difference between a church and a cathedral?
Why were cathedrals built? How were cathedrals built? Entry 5 3/19/07
1. Describe how the pre-note taking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?
The process of finding a fat question was both easy and difficult at the same time. The hard part was listing questions and the simple part was determining with question was fat. Overall, it was quite helpful to me. Teacher Response March 20 - Maggie rumor has it that you write beautifully. I am hoping that you find your topic interesting enough to write well about it. I think it is a great topic. However, where is your fat question? 19/20 Entry 6 3/20/07
1. What have I learned today?
There is an amazing amount of information on my topic and as I continue to research I am fascinated by the tremendous amount of thought and work put into the construction of these buildings. I also was surprised to learn that cathedrals had serious political significance.
2. What problems have I had?
I had difficulty deciding how to pull out the important facts from the large amount of info.I also need to make sure not to drift away from my main ideas.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I will make a point of staying focused on the information I am looking for to put together a good project, but I also don't want to miss anything that might be especially useful or exciting.
4. What will I do next?
I will probably try to get more information about my topic before doing anything else and try to stay very organized and focused. Teacher Response March 21 - Great job! 10/10 Entry 7 3/21/07
1. What have I learned today?
I learned that since the head builder ( the person in charge of building the cathedral) was probably the only person in the group who could read, he built the first column and the other workers would copy the columns exactly. Cathedrals during the Middle ages were built using geometry to symbolize order and harmony, a Roman technique. All good info but still not very successful in finding what I need.
2. What problems have I had?
Finding information is REALLY difficult for me.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I guess I will try to search for different things that would relate to my topic since the words I type in are not getting me anywhere.
4. What will I do next?
I will find a book to get information and keep on working hard on finding good sites.
Teacher Response March 22 - Please ask for help if needed! 10/10. Entry 8 3/22/07
1. What have I learned today?
I learned that cathedrals were made of stone, preferably limestone. The citizens had to provide the stone for quarrymen.
2. What problems have I had?
Today I didn't really have any problems. I breezed through my research.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
If I have anymore problems I will probably ask for advice.
4. What will I do next?
I did a library catalog search and found what could be an excellent source. I will check it out.
